What was described as a small portion of land just north of Buckingham was vacated by the by the Tama County Board of Supervisors Monday upon the recommendation of County Engineer Lyle Brehm. The land was included in right of way for Q Avenue near where it intersected with U.S. Highway 63 in 1958. Since then the highway has been realigned. As a result it is no longer a factor in the existing traveled portion of the roadway. A provision in the Iowa Code provides for the action be taken without a public hearing “if the vacations not part of a road right-of-way held by easement,” does not change the existing traveled portion or deny access to adjoining landowners. In other business Monday the supervisors: •appointed the Moore, McKibben, Goodman and Lorenz Law Firm, Toledo, to represent the county in land transfers for four radio towers being built for the new county emergency radio system. •approved a tax abatement after negotiating with Heicey Alvarado for a residence in the 700 block of South Church Street. The City of Toledo has waived special assessments on the property which was listed as owned by Collette Renee Thomas. A total of $6,512 in taxes were due. Alvarado offered to pay an amount of $3,000 after telling supervisors an inspection of the house had found it unable to be rehabilitated. Supervisors offered to settle for $5,000 and after further negotiations, it was reached in an agreement Alvarado would pay $4,000 to cover the outstanding amount. She plans to build a new home on the property. •received a quarterly report for representative of Bernie Lowe and Associates concerning employee health coverage. •changed the Nov. 11 meeting date to Tuesday, Nov. 12, because of the Veterans Day holiday on Monday and set the canvas of the city and school elections for 8 a.m. also on Nov. 12.
