Tama County District Court Dhuuh Mohamed Hassan ,45, Tama, was found guilty last week of willful injury causing bodily injury by a Tama County Jury in a trial taking most of four days. Hassan was accused of stabbing a victim three times in a downtown Tama 4th Street apartment on Dec. 23, 2017. Hassan now is awaiting sentencing set for Dec. 19 by District Court Judge Jason D. Besler. Hassan was found guilty of willful injury causing serious injury and assault with a dangerous weapon in Tama County District Court in Toledo in October, 2018, in the same case. That verdict was overturned and a new trial ordered on Aug. 8 of this year. In making the ruling Judge Besler found evidence lacking the injuries suffered by the victim were serious based at least partially on testimony of an attending physician. However, the verdict and sentence on the charge of assault with a dangerous weapon stood and Hassan was sentenced to two years in prison. He has recently been held at the Ft. Dodge Correctional Facility. On Sept. 19 of this year Tama Police Chief Jason Bina filed a charge of attempted murder in connection with the case. An amended trial information adding this charge was filed by Tama County Attorney Brent Heeren on Oct. 14. Also included was the previous serious injury charge. Prior to the trial beginning Judge Besler denied the motion to add the attempted murder charge for the Oct. 21 trial. A separate trial information was then filed for a new case on the attempted murder charge according to court records.
