COLO — Tenth-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck secured its 10th-straight playoff berth by beating Colo-NESCO 46-14 in Friday’s 8-Man District 5 finale, wrapping up an undefeated district title for the second time in as many years. The Rebels (7-2, 7-0) broke free from an 8-all tie by scoring the next 38 points, with three touchdowns coming from Eli Thede. Thede had a 36-yard touchdown reception from Cullen Eiffler that broke the tie and then rushed in from 7 yards out to make it 20-8 G-R. Eiffler’s second passing touchdown — a 26-yard connection with Aiden Wyatt — gave Gladbrook-Reinbeck a 26-8 halftime lead. Keagan Giesking broke free for a 48-yard touchdown run to open the second half scoring and Thede took the ball in from 43 yards to put the Rebels up by 30, 38-8, in the third quarter. Senior lineman Aidan Walters tacked on a 5-yard touchdown plunge to close the Rebels’ scoring. Colo-NESCO (3-7, 3-4) got short touchdown runs from Francis Bower and Andrew Glover, but the Royals couldn’t overcome three turnovers. Giesking finished with 149 yards rushing on 18 carries, while Thede had 88 yards on seven attempts, and both scored two touchdowns on the ground. Eiffler’s only two completions went for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Jace Petersen led the Rebel defense with 5 solo tackles and 11 assists, including 2.5 tackles for loss. Kale Hasselman totaled nine tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss, while Thede had 7.5 tackles. Glover finished with 18 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown to lead Colo-NESCO, which was outgained 323-198.
