30 Years Ago Sept. 15, 1989 Glenn and Abbie Sash will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Dr. Jeff and Diane OKones are the parents of a daughter, Jessica Lea, born September 1st. She is welcomed home by a brother, Jake, 22 months. 40 years Ago Sept. 21, 1979 Gladbrook’s physician, Dr. L. G. Schaeferle, is announcing this week that he has sold his building and interest in his practice to Doctors Axel T. Lund and Curtis G. Wuest, of Marshalltown. The Gladbrook Clinic will be known as Gladbrook Family Medical Services. In a transaction completed this past weekend, Ward S. French sold an interest in his funeral home to Floyd W. Hand of Tama. Mr. and Mrs. Galen Hamann are the proud parents of a daughter, Jaclyn Sue, born September 8. She joins a brother, Jason, 3 1/2, at home. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Roger Rohweder, Garwin, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hamann, Gladbrook. 50 Years Ago Sept. 12, 1969 Richard Bruene and Albert Dierks, Jr., were elected to the school board for 3-year terms. John Earley, 20, of Cameron, Missouri, son of Mrs. Mabel Earley of Toledo, formerly of Gladbrook, was killed Friday, August 29, in a one-car crash near Richmond, Missouri, in which four young men were killed instantly. The Gladbrook Fire Department received the delivery of a Jeep and trailer on Tuesday from the Forestry Section of the Iowa Conservation Commission. It is the plans of the local department to have the Jeep and trailer painted red and the unit will be used for fighting brush and grass fires after the trailer has been converted into a tanker. 60 Years Ago Sept. 11, 1959 This is our annual Vacation Issue of the Tama Northern. Miss Janet Rohweder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rohweder, of Gladbrook, became the bride of Keith Klar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Klar, Grundy Center, on August 21. Mr. and Mrs. Hannis Busch celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Evelyn M. Sawyer, of Gladbrook, has filed suit of divorce from Howard G. Sawyer. Alfred M. Gloe, 70, passed away Sunday at the Evangelical Hospital in Marshalltown, where he was taken Saturday after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. 70 Years Ago Sept. 9, 1949 Kate V. Burch, daughter of Mrs. Ora Burch, of Fremont, became the bride of Marlyn R. Fink, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fink, Gladbrook, on September 4. Lola Mae Hayes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Hayes, of Marshalltown, and Gerald W. Wegner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wegner, of Gladbrook, were united in marriage September 1. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Schmidt, of Lincoln, announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Colleen, to James Miller, of Morrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Friend Miller. A fire of unknown origin caused considerable damage at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Aldrich near Garwin Thursday afternoon. Ira Sanderson, of Beaman, was sentenced to 30 days in the Grundy jail by Judge W. T. Evans Friday in district court at Grundy Center on a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm. 80 Years Ago Sept. 8, 1939 The Gladbrook schools opened Monday, with an enrollment of 125 in the elementary grades and 128 in the high school. Albert Dierks was elected Commander of Ehrig-McTurk Post 127. Miss Dorothy Gloe, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gloe, and Leonard Hibbs, son of Rev. and Mrs. L. T. Hibbs, of LeGrand, were united in marriage. Elmer ‘Doc’ Thurman left September 5, for Wichita , Kansas, where he will receive training in the Great Plains Aeronautic School, where he will work on and off while getting his training which consists of 16 months. 90 Years Ago Sept. 12, 1929 The last three miles of dirt road between Marshalltown and Gladbrook will be improved before snow flies, according to a statement Tuesday by members of the county board of supervisors. Plans have been made by the board members to gravel surface the three miles on the short route to the Marshall-Grundy county line. A second son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Edwards, of near Traer. Mrs. A. J. Edwards, southwest of Gladbrook is the great grandmother. John Svatos, 70, was found dead in an upstairs room of his home Monday morning where he had hanged himself sometime during the night.
