30 Years Ago September 1, 1989 Lincoln has it’s own “wall”, a wall of railroad ties that stretches a whole block. When the 100-year-old track was removed the ties were collected. No one is quite sure how long the ties will be stored in Lincoln or what their planning on doing with them. David and Mary Bolin are the proud parents of a baby boy, Brandon John, born on August 18. Paternal grandparents are Vernon and Rae Jean Bolin of Reinbeck. Maternal grandparents are Melvin and Mina Knaack of Gladbrook. The wedding vows of Pamela Danette Hamann and Kenneth Jack Fogt were exchanged on August 12. Parents of the couple are Duane and Sue Hamann of Gladbrook and Jack and Joan Fogt of Reinbeck. Nicole Lee Paustian and Dennis Wade Clapp exchanged wedding vows on August 19. Parents of the couple are Darrell and Jeanne Paustian, Gladbrook, and Joe and Gail Clapp, Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Gilge are proud to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Tesha Marie, to Michael Lee Nagle, son of Donna and Harvey Lasser of Gilbert, Iowa. 40 Years Ago September 7, 1979 Diana Lynn Halverson, daughter of Mrs. Pauline Halverson, and Mark Richard Volkens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Volkens, all of Gladbrook, exchanged wedding vows on August 25. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Alvestad of Gladbrook are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Carole Ann to Fr. Larry Otteman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arlin Otteman of Sac City, Iowa. Linda Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Mitchell, Garwin, and Curt Bacon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marley Bacon, also of Garwin, were united in marriage on August 25. Ronald Lloyd Gamble and Linda Aurand were united in marriage on August 25. Parents of the couple are Dr. and Mrs. R. E. Gamble and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Aurand. 50 Years Ago August 29, 1969 The town of Gladbrook was made defendant in a $6,000 damage suit filed in Tama County district court Thursday of last week by Robert Dales of Vinton, deliveryman for Iowa Parcel Service, who claims he was injured in a fall on a Gladbrook sidewalk May 15, 1969. Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Harms of Marion, are the parents of a son born August 15. There are two other boys and twin girls in the family. Mrs. Gilbert Dahms is the paternal grandmother and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hatch are the maternal grandparents. Miss Marilyn Zimmer, of Wichita and Michael Mennenga of McConnell Air Base, exchanged wedding vows on August 12. The bride’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Zimmer of Wichita, and the bridegroom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Mennenga of Gladbrook. 60 Years Ago August 28, 1959 Gladbrook-Lincoln schools will begin classes on August 31. Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary. John R. Claussen, 50, a bachelor farmer northeast of Gladbrook was found dead Sunday morning by a neighbor in a gully on his farm. Claussen had been crushed to death instantly when a tractor rolled over on him.s 70 Years Ago August 26, 1949 Fred Wrage will celebrate is 88th birthday. Mrs. Ora H. Burch has announced the engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter, Katie Virginia, to Marlyn R. Fink, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fink. Mr. and Mrs. James Engel, of Springfield , Illinois, are the parents of a son born to them on August 17. They have one other boy, James. 80 years Ago August 25, 1939 L. W. Burns, former deputy sheriff has been appointed by Harry P. Sharp to succeed Russell Kern, who was recently appointed to serve as criminal investigator for the Iowa State Bureau of Investigation. Clarence A. Helfer and Esther B. Appelgate were united in marriage at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Appelgate of near Green Mountain on August 21. 90 Years Ago August 29, 1929 Margaret Steiert, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Steiert, living three and a half miles northeast of Garwin, was instantly killed when the Ford which she was driving went into a ditch just south of the James Uridil place. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thurmond, living a mile west of Marshalltown, are the parents of a son born to them. Mrs. Thurmond is better known around Gladbrook as Miss Erma Mann, daughter of S. E. Mann. Combustion started a fire in Ed Gethmann’s hay barn about 8:30 o’clock Wednesday evening. A barn, silo, machinery, and hogs were destroyed in that night blaze.
