The Gladbrook Auxiliary hosted the July Sr. Citizens dinner on the 12th at the Memorial Building. The theme was a 4th of July picnic. Everyone was glad the picnic was inside with no bugs or hot sun. Darrell Paustian and Randy Ohrt grilled hamburgers, Joyce Swangel made the potato salad and Karen Pieper made the brownies for the brownie sundaes, and Jeanne prepared the watermelon, beans, and red punch. Thirty-four dinners were served. Nicole Clapp, National American Legion Auxiliary Vice-President, was the progam. She gave some very interesting facts about the American Legion Auxiliary since it was founded a 100 years ago. Nicole also talked about her becoming a member a the age of 4. Everyone was very interested on hearing about the election for National President in August in Indianapolis, and her “Homecoming” in Gladbrook in October. The door prize winners were Ron Schmidt, cookies, Karen Ohrt, a Bath & Body basket, and Elaine Thede a gift certificate. There is no senior dinner in August. The September dinner will be held on Fri., Sept. 13th, at the Chapel Church.
