Message From Our Mayor

June 6, 2019
Northern-Sun Print
How about starting off with some good news. The sun is shinning – what a beautiful day to the start of June. More good news – the Crayon Corner Preschool has received a four rating this past month. That is the highest rating possible for our size. Great job staff and board. Congratulations! Next Mark Lowry has found two major water leaks. After many weeks of using every method possible, Mark had a home owner tell him he had a lot of water in his basement. This house was unoccupied so no one was checking it. The leak was in front of the meter so the water bill didn’t show it. The next day Kenney Wiebensohn told Mark that there was water running the RV washout area by the water tower. Not a place anyone thought to look. Between the two leaks our water usage has dropped about 30,000 gallons a day. Thanks to Mark, Kenny and Jerry Buskhol and everyone else in helping to find these problems. We probably still have several more leaks out there. With all the rain we have received the last several weeks, the grass is growing fast. Thanks to everyone for keeping it mowed. It all looks very nice when it is freshly mown and so green along with all the nice flowers that are in bloom now. Keep it up! Corn Carnival is coming! Along those lines remember that Corn Carnival is one week early this year starting June 20 with the Collectors Fair and Kids Parade. Friday will be the petting zoo and the Grand Parade and Saturday we will have the 5K run/walk, kids activities in the park, antique tractor ride, breakfast at the shuffleboard court, car cruise and of course the Luethje Fireworks at night. We finish off the week with an omelet breakfast and church services. Our daily events include midway rides, food stand(good pies), sweet corn, Matchstick Marvels, Gladbrook Museum, Quilt Raffle, free entertainment on Main and the beer garden. Our home town Saturday night entertainment at the theatre will include the famous Singing Nuns along with singers Brianna Strohbehn and Sadie Cahallan and maybe a few surprises. Come to Corn Carnival and see old friends and make some new ones. I’ll be looking forward to seeing you there! There is some talk out there that this will be the last Corn Carnival. THAT IS WRONG! The Corn Carnival committee is already working on our 100th celebration and we have two more years before that. Corn Carnival will be a part of Gladbrook for a long time to come. Join us for this great celebration! Thanks to everyone helping make Gladbrook Strong!

Keith Sash, Mayor
