JoAnn Wentzien, 85, of Lincoln, Iowa died Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Her Memorial Service will be held at 4 pm, Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Salem Church in Lincoln, Iowa. The family invites you to join them for a meal and time of fellowship immediately following the service. A visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 pm in the church fellowship hall for those who cannot make the service. Born JoAnn Mae Tracy on June 20, 1933 to John & Helen Tracy, she graduated from Ankeny High School in 1951, then went on to attend the University of Iowa obtaining a Masters in Nursing. While at Iowa, JoAnn met the love of her life, Herbert Theodore Wentzien and they were united in marriage on September 9, 1956. Jo taught nursing at the Evangelical College in Marshalltown during her early years of marriage. Three years later Ted and JoAnn started their family and were the proud parents of four children: Tracy Ann, Herbert Trent, Herbert Troy, and Tedra Ann. As a faithful member of the Salem Church of Lincoln, Jo was involved with Living Branches, the adult choir, and served on the Church Board. She and Ted led the Youth Fellowship on many adventures. Jo was also a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star serving on the 1983 Grand Family as Marshall. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, sewing, puzzling, and sports (especially cheering on her Hawkeyes). She frequently demonstrated her compassion for others by sharing her homemade cinnamon rolls and tea rings and used her nursing skills assisting many Lincoln residents in their times of need. Preceding her in death were her father and mother, husband H. Ted, son H. Troy, granddaughter Elizabeth Jane Wentzien, brother John Tracy, and brother-in-law Loren Flamme. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved family: Tracy (Denny) Ostrem, H. Trent (Deb) Wentzien, Kris Wentzien and Tedra (Craig) Henze. Grandchildren: Ben Ostrem (Angela Brockmeyer), Blake Ostrem; Harrison Tyler (Jordan) Wentzien, Erin Wentzien; H. Tucker (Frannie) Wentzien, H. Tanner Wentzien, H. Turner Wentzien (Nicole Poirier), Treyner Wentzien; Dalton Henze, Marcus Henze, and Malory Henze. Great-granddaughters Stella Jo Wentzien and Millicent Lou Wentzien and Sister-in-law Pauline Flamme. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Salem Church of Lincoln or the family.
