GRUNDY CENTER – More than 235 guests gathered for the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s annual Gala & Auction Saturday evening. The 2019 event theme was “Under the Big Top” and guests were treated to a circus theme as they dined, socialized, and bid on auction items. A record $67,500 was raised to support local health care needs, including a special Fund a Need appeal for a new cardiac monitor for the Emergency Department. A volunteer committee works with hospital foundation staff to plan the event, and committee member Rhonda Samo of Grundy Center says she and fellow committee members enjoy the process of planning the event each year. “We are very fortunate to have such a great local hospital that is continuously growing and offers so many services,” remarks Samo. “Our committee is thankful for everyone’s support and generosity. After months of planning for an amazing event, it was great to see guests enjoying themselves as they made it a record-setting evening!” GCMH President Adam Scherling opened the event with a welcome to guests, congratulating them on the local area’s reputation for providing outstanding support for rural health care. Mark Jungling, auctioneer, and Cameron Corbett, emcee, maintained enthusiasm throughout the event, while a juggler, fortune teller, strong man, and lion tamer helped to create a circus atmosphere. The Grundy County Memorial Hospital Foundation holds two fundraising events each year as part of its Annual Campaign efforts to raise funds to support the hospital.
