Peterson paces GMG past Spartans MAXWELL — The GMG boys basketball team took an Iowa Star Conference South Division victory away from Collins-Maxwell on Tuesday night, 71-47. At halftime the Wolverines (2-1, 1-1) held a 35-25 lead over the Spartans (1-3, 1-2), but by the end of the third quarter that advantage ballooned to 55-38. Brayden Peterson had 23 to pace GMG, while Justin Savadty scored 18, Aaron Fleming had 12 and Kolton Gill finished with 10 to give the Wolverines four players in double figures. Savatdy and Avery Brandt both had five rebounds to lead GMG on the boards. John Kasper had 15 to lead Collins-Maxwell, followed by Brett Livesay with 12.

GMG girls suffer season’s first defeat MAXWELL — The GMG girls basketball team took its first loss of the season by falling to Iowa Star Conference South Division foe Collins-Maxwell on Tuesday, 55-36. Kelsey Vaverka had 10 points to lead the Wolverines (3-1, 1-1) while Madi Krull and Zoe Duncan each had six. GMG struggled at the free-throw line, going 1-for-6 behind the charity stripe, while the Spartans (3-3, 2-1) were 14-for-19. Mikayla Houge had 19 points to pace Collins-Maxwell, followed by Reagan Franzen with 12.
