Sports-Rebels dropped in ranked showdown

HUDSON — The Class 1A No. 11 Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball team lost a cross-NICL match against 2A No. 14 Hudson on Thursday in straight sets, 25-20, 25-21, 25-3. After winning seven straight contests, the Rebels (19-6) have dropped back-to-back matches to ranked 2A foes. Haleigh Berendes was the top offensive player with eight kills, followed by Saari Kuehl with seven. Madison Denny-Weber had 19 assists, while Kuehl had seven digs and Alyssa Morgan had five to lead the way defensively. Gladbrook-Reinbeck will host West Marshall on Tuesday to try and snap their recent slide.
