Senior Citizens’ Lunch at Chapel Sept. 14

September 20, 2018

The Chapel Church Volunteer ladies hosted 23 Gladbrook senior citizens on Friday, September 14, 2018, at 11:30 pm in their Fellowship Hall. Guests were served a lunch of pork loin, twice baked potatoes, carrot casserole, whipped pear salad, rolls, apple dumplings & ice cream, and drinks on brightly fall-decorated tables. The program theme was “Having Fun Going Down Memory Lane.” After singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” Sue Koster read a humorous poem entitled “My Rememberer.” Then, the group discussed fun memories, such as their favorite toys and games as children. Some riddles were mingled in with the discussion, like “When is a retiree’s bedtime? Answer: Two hours after (s)he falls asleep on the couch!” The group enjoyed some one-liners, such as “The nice thing about being forgetful is that you can hide your own Easter eggs and then have fun finding them!” The group agreed that we are very fortunate to live in America where we can laugh and share stories and jokes freely with each other. To conclude, the group stood and sang “God Bless America.” The next senior citizen’s lunch will be Friday, October 12, at the Memorial Building at 11:30 am. Please get reservations to Jeanne Paustian.
