Gladbrook United Methodist Women

Carol Mead, Marcy Knaack, Marilyn Brekke, and Pauline Flamme were the appointed committee for the United Methodist Women May 16th meeting. Ten members were present. Carol and Marilyn decorated the tables with a spring Hawaiian theme serving fruit cocktail and a variety of rolls. Marcy introduced the lessons theme Mother’s Day with two selections. She accompanied the group singing “Faith of our Mothers”. Pauline Flamme reviewed the beginning honoring Mother’s Day. Members present gave their influences given to them as they grew up. Kathy Poling, the new president, opened the business meeting by reviewing the UMW activities since the beginning of the year. She also announced upcoming activities and material. Kathy asked the members to sign a thank you’s for several world missionaries. We were encouraged for our youth to go to camp this year. The UMW gives each camper $50 scholarships. June Klinefelter made a motion for the UMW to donate to the 88 Keys fundraiser. This is to provide a new piano to Westbrook Acres. RoseMary McKinney seconded, motion carried. Chairman of UMW activities were reminded to write-up about the activities they chair and put that copy in the drawers in the kitchen so members may review them. Marcy Knaack thanked the group for the UMW mission pin she received. June Klinefelter, treasurer, gave the report of her expenditures-garbage pick-up for the year, Northeast pledges and individual take-home boxes. Monies she received were-dish clothes, Senior Citizens Dinner, Everett Lattin family memorials. June Klinefelter closed the meeting by handing out butterflies to the officers of the UMW. Next meeting will be September 19, 2018.
