Lots of Fun Planned for Thursday Night of Corn Carnival

You won't want to miss all the action and entertainment scheduled for Thursday night of the Gladbrook Corn Carnival on June 28th. All the activities at the Kiddies Parade start out the jam-packed night including the crowning of Little Mr. & Miss Corn Carnival, 6:15, and the 10th annual Corn Cob Queen sponsored by Anderson Funeral Home. The Collectors Fair continues in the Memorial Building. Then there will be free music on Main Street by the "Country Classic Four" (including Vic Switzer of Westbrook Acres) playing after the parade.

The Gladbrook Corn Carnival Kiddies Parade will be held on Thurs., June 28th, at 6:30 p.m. The six categories this year are: "Get Your Kicks @ Corn Carnival 96" (theme of the 96th Corn Carnival); Comics, Cartoons & Movie themes; Patriotic; Bikes & Trikes; Advertising, and Miscellaneous/Pets. So now is the time to start thinking and creating your entries.

Participants should be at the NW corner of the city park by 6 p.m. on the night of the parade. Look for the sign post with your category's name on it. There you will register and fill out a form which includes your name, description of your entry, and parents' and/or grandparents' names. Each participant will be announced over the loud speaker. You may pre-register by filling out your entry form at Peace Church prior to the 28th. Each entry will receive a prize.

It's Finally BackBingo

Bingo is back for the 2018 Gladbrook Corn Carnival on Thursday, June 28th only from 7 to 10 pm. Thanks to a great group of Gladbrook alumni, we have found enough workers to make this event happen again this year.

The action will be held in the Hometown Foods parking lot, weather permitting, so stroll on down the street after eating at the food stand for some Bingo competition.

Cards will be $1 each to play.

Corn Carnival Saturday Kid's Day Activities

Corn Carnival 2018 "Kids' Day" will be at the Gladbrook City Park on Saturday, June 30th. Registration begins at 9:00am with events starting at 10:00am. Do try to register early so that events can start on time.

The Cozy Coupe Races will start the events so the one year olds won't have to wait so long. The Big Wheel Races will follow and then the Sport Car Races. The Basketball Shoot, Pedal Tractor Pull and Corn Throwing will also all start at 10:00am. We will rotate age and weights so that kids can compete in all events if

they wish. It becomes a three ring circus but lots of fun for all.

Sand Pile

A gigantic sand pile with "hidden treasures" inside will again be available to help entertain even the tiniest carnival goers. Preschool through kindergarten age kids can bring their pails and shovels to hunt for the coins hidden in the sand.

Cozy Coupe Races

Youngsters will use their foot power to propel the Little Tikes cars down the street. Age divisions will be 1 yr, 2 yr, and 3 yr old. We hope our younger participants enjoy this event. Entry fee is $1. Medals will be awarded to the 1st place winner with prizes for 2nd and 3rd places. Racing begins at 10am.

Big Wheel Races

Corn Carnival '18 will once again offer Big Wheel Races for kids. Registration will start at 9:00am with racing to follow the Cozy Coupes. The age groups are 2-3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 year olds. The entry fee is $1. Each individual will be timed and the best times will be awarded prizes and first place medals.

Pedal Tractor Pull

We will also be having a Pedal Tractor Pull just like the "big boys". All supplies are furnished; all you need is enthusiasm and muscle power. Registration begins at 9am.

Weight brackets are by pounds and you will be weighed at registration. Weight classes are 35-46 lbs; 47-58 lbs; 59-70 lbs; and 71-80 lbs. Entry fee is $1. There will be first place medals in each class and prizes for 2nd and 3rd. Pulling starts at 10am.

Sport Car Races

Our Sport Car Races feature the Little Tikes Sport Racer. All participants will race through a marked course except the 3-4 year olds. Age divisions are 3-4; 5-6; and 7 year olds. Entry fee is $1. All "Racers" are furnished, all you need is "Pedal Power".

Medals will be awarded for 1st place with prizes for 2nd and 3rd. Racing will begin after the Big Wheel Races.

Basketball Shoot

The Basketball Shoot will be held on the basketball court at the City Park. Age divisions for boys and girls are 5-6; 7-8; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14, and 15-16. We will again feature Little Tikes basketball hoops and balls for the younger ages.

Regulation baskets will be used for the older ones. Two age brackets will be run at the same time. Entry fee is $1. Registration begins at 9am. Shooting will begin at 10am. Medals will be awarded for 1st place with prizes for 2nd and 3rd in each age


Corn Throwing

What would Corn Carnival be without an ear corn throwing contest. We hope to get this started at approximately 10am with two age brackets going at the same time.

Adults will start first at one throwing site, then jumping back to the younger age brackets. Come watch the corn fly through the air. First through 3rd place prizes will be awarded to the winners in the following categories (boys and girls): 1-3; 4-5; 6- 7; 8-9; 10-12; 13-16; 17-19; 20-59; over 60. There is a $1 entry fee.

Come join the fun and participate in all of these activities, or bring a lawn chair to sit back, and have a good time watching the people. Refreshments will be available at the Shelter House area. Photo Ballot Cards may be purchased for $1.00 each at the Corn Carnival Corporation booth upstairs in the City Centre during the 2018 celebration. The lucky winner of $50 in Gladbrook Bucks will be drawn from all correct entries during the Saturday evening Talent Show.
