On Monday, May 21 the Tama County Board of Supervisors: •approved a request to again have the Iowa 99-County Bible Reading Marathon to use the Tama County courthouse lawn in Toledo or the event on Saturday, July. 14. •also approved use of the bandstand on the County House Square for a display heralding the 100th anniversary of the Iowa State Extension Service Cheryl Bruene, County Extension and Outreach director, Toledo the supervisors hay bales will be used to form a “birthday cake” with an announcement of an observance on June 10 at Otter Creek Lake and Park. The bandstand use is also is subject to approval by the Toledo City Council. •approved a resolution on a 3-0 vote supporting the application of the Marshalltown Housing and Community Development Dept. to apply for a lead hazard control grant from Housing and Urban Development. The grant request includes Tama County as wel las the city of Marshalltown. it is a continuation of a program which has bene in place aimed at eliminating lead poisoning from paint sources. •approved claims totaling $254,375. •changed their regular meeting date from May 28 to May 29 because of the Memorial Day holiday. Also, recently the supervisors: •approved utility permits for work by Windstream in York Township, Black Hills for a gas line in Salt Creek Township and East Central REC for work on Tama County Road V37. •conducted a public hearing during which no comments were received on a budget amendment allowing the transfer of funds. The amendment was approved 3-0 including; Public Safety and Legal Services- $33,500 for for ongoing jury trial, Grand Jury and increased jail cost for prisoners; physical health and social services- $153,683 in grant money received for public health no budgeted and a billing error for substance abuse which was paid twice; county environment and education- increased cost for maintaining pioneer cemeteries- $1,000; Government Services to Residents: $27,100 for copy machine buy-out in treasurer’s office and primary election costs for auditor; Administration: civil service commission costs, increased unemployment compensation $3,500. •approved liquor sales license for Fox Ridge Winery.
