Wolverines wallop CAL in Iowa Star LATIMER - The GMG girls' basketball team got out to a 25-1 first-quarter lead and left CAL High School with a 72-32 victory in Friday's Iowa Star Conference clash. The Wolverines (7-6, 7-3) led 42-10 at the half and eased to the win. Blaire Sonderleiter and McKensie Vaske netted 17 points apiece to lead GMG. Mable Dieleman had 10 points, Tori Novotny added a career-best eight points and Zoe Duncan had six more. Kassidy State led the host Cadets (1-12, 1-11) with 15 points. Stephanie Thielen and Kaylea Rew added six points each in CAL's 11th consecutive loss.

GMG boys hold off CAL in league play LATIMER - Brayden Peterson poured in 11 points and Austin Cox had 10 more as the GMG boys' basketball team got past CAL, 43-35, in Friday's Iowa Star Conference tilt. Brock Baldazo added eight points for the Wolverines (6-5, 5-5), while Cox and Hunter Smoldt both had a team-high five rebounds. Nate Rapp led CAL (4-9, 4-8) with 13 points and Israel Rivera had 10 more.

RebelHawks go 3-2 at BGM Duals BROOKLYN - The Gladbrook-Reinbeck/North Tama wrestling team went 3-2 at the BGM Duals on Friday. The RebelHawks were led by undefeated days on the mat for Cael Kopriva at 160 pounds and Peyton Willenbring at heavyweighy. Kopriva went 4-0 with four pins, while Willenbring was 3-0 with a pin, a decision and a forfeit. Zane Nelson (106) and Tanner Calderwood (220) both went 4-1 for GRNT, both scoring two pins and two wins by forfeit. Jace Peterson (126), Noah Skornia (132), Tyler Morrison (160/170) and Bronson Wrage (182) chalked up three wins apiece. The RebelHawks defeated host BGM (54-16), Davis County (53-27) and North Scott (44-28) while also falling to Gilbert (62-15) and Tipton 45-30.
