GMG girls rough up Redhawks, 61-34 Times-Republican Staff GARWIN - Blaire Sonderleiter and McKensie Vaske scored 17 points apiece to lead the GMG girls’ basketball team to a 61-34 rout of North Tama in Tuesday’s Iowa Star Conference South Division showdown. Sonderleiter made it a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Vaske went 10-for-12 from the free-throw line for the Wolverines (5-5, 5-2). Mable Dieleman added eight points, Josie Claassen had six more and Madi Krull tallied five for GMG. Karly Jans led North Tama with 10 points and Olivia Schrier finished with nine. Molly Kvidera and Takoa Kopriva both pitched in with five points for the Redhawks (3-7, 3-6), who leave league play Thursday to take on Belle Plaine on the road. GMG visits Meskwaki Settlement on Friday night in conference action.

Wolverines rally past North Tama GARWIN - Austin Cox racked up 24 points and eight rebounds to lead the GMG boys’ basketball team to a 73-62 victory over North Tama in Tuesday’s Iowa Star Conference South Division contest. Aaron Fleming and Brayden Peterson both posted 11 points for GMG (5-3, 5-3), which trailed 28-25 at the half before outscoring the Redhawks 21-14 in the third quarter. Jack Dostal led North Tama (3-6, 3-6) with 17 points, Will Earley had 13 and Joe Earley 10, but the Redhawks still suffered their fifth-straight loss. North Tama travels to face Belle Plaine in non-conference play Thursday, while GMG goes to Meskwaki Settlement on Friday in league action.
