Senior Citizens

October 21, 2016

Twenty-nine of Gladbrook’s seniors were treated to a delicious meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, orange dream jello, rolls with honey/cinnamon butter, and cupcakes on October 14, 2016, at the Memorial Building at 11:30 am. Trudi Scott prepared the meal, and Joyce Swangel gave the meal blessing. After the meal, Sue Koster showed a video that was made in 1993-94 by her Gladbrook TAG fourth and fifth graders, which were Mary Linnenbrink, Jessica McCreery, Stephanie Randolph, Jessica Reese, Dan Seda, Michelle Beichley, Grant Herink, Andy Koester, and Seth Williams. The video was called “Gladbrook: Alive and Growing.” The students won the state contest and then traveled in June, 1994, to Ann Arbor, MI, to be recognized for placing third in the world. The video described many businesses in Gladbrook. Those interviewed in the video included Lester and Loretta Engel, Mike Wentzien, Chuck Bearden, April Acton, and Beulah Clausen. Afterwards, the group enjoyed telling related memories from that era.
