Alpha Study Club

October 7, 2016
Northern-Sun Print
President Pat Goos opened the Alpha Study meeting at the home of Jean Livingston with a quote from “Title Wave’s” weekly newsletter about having a National Reading Day. Twenty two members were present with three members absent. The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved. No correspondence was presented, and no bills were offered for payment. Old Business: There was no old business. New Business: Veta Hildebrand shared a correction to her email address. Bev Miller shared that the November 22 meeting will be held at Annie Stocker’s room. Jean Livingston on behalf of the program committee introduced Mary Trobaugh who reviewed the book Mother Angelica-Her Grand Silence by Raymond Arroyo. The book is about the final years of Mother Angelica’s life following a severe stroke. Her last years were mostly spent in silence and solitude with the other sisters caring for her personal needs. Mother Angelica founded The Eternal Word Television Network hiring the author of this book as the news director. They had a close personal and professional friendship. Mother Angelica felt it was her life’s mission to share her love for God and her faith with millions of people throughout the world. Many people still run across her broadcasts today and find peace and encouragement. Mother Angelica was an unlikely person to have become a nun but she found her vocation at the age of 19 when she was miraculously cured of physical suffering after a very chaotic childhood. She died on Easter Sunday in 2016 remembered as a larger-than-life beloved religious figure. President Pat Goos closed the meeting by sharing our next meeting of October 11 will be at the home of Avriel Koester. Shirley Swenson will be the book reviewer. Jean served a variety of delicate cookies, coffee and tea.
