The NRA Foundation recently awarded the Tama County Young Guns 4-H Club $2,581.00 in new rifle and shotgun equipment. “We are very excited about the new equipment”, said Eric Keller, the 4-H club president, “and pleased that the NRA is making an investment in Tama County’s 4-H community.” Roy Silhanek, one of the club leaders said , “the Young Guns group applied for a grant from the NRA because our enrollment grew 4-5 times its original size in one year. We realized that the club needed more equipment to adequately train the new members.” The new equipment arrived just in time as the 4-H club members were preparing to compete in their annual Iowa 4-H State Shoot. The 4-H club members were able to use the new firearms to compete in their recent State Shoot, and the club was thrilled to bring home 5 medals in the disciplines of.22 Rifle, Air Rifle, and Muzzleloader. The Iowa 4-H Shooting Sports Program provides activities at all levels through the state to meet our overall goal to “empower youth to reach their full potential working and learning in partnership with a caring adult through a shooting sports related activity.” 4-H members can learn disciplines of .22 Small Bore Rifle, Air Rifle, Shotgun, Archery, Muzzleloader, and Wildlife Skills. The NRA Foundation was established 1990 and is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that supports a wide range of firearm-related public interest activities of the National Rifle Association of America and other organizations that defend and foster the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans. These activities are designed to promote firearm and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those participating in the shootings sports, and to educate the general public about firearms in their historic, technological, and artistic context.
