The new season for the Alpha Study Club started with a Fall Tea on October 9, 2012, at the home of Sue Koster with 21 members present. The Social Committee consisting of Sue Koster, Claire Handorf, Marge Grove, Phyllis Chizek and Marcia Plett served as hostesses. The meeting was called to order by President Deb Wentzien with a reading “A Season of Glory” author unknown. The minutes of the April meeting and a report of the May Spring Fling were approved as read. The Treasurer’s report was read and approved. President Deb welcomed back Marcia Plett as a member of Alpha. Shirley Swenson reported that she will be buying a book in memory of Rose Bruene. Karen Handorf gave the Historian Report for the 2011-2012 year. Pat Clausen reported that help would be appreciated for the Children’s Shopping Day on December 8. Help would consist of supplying snacks, providing gifts or working that day, if possible. The Program Committee passed out the lovely program booklets for the coming year. The committee consists of Rose Russell, Ranae Fagan, Shirley Swenson and Pat Clausen. Social Committee members passed around a pumpkin holding assorted colors of paper fall leaves. There was a question written on each leaf pertaining to books and reading. Much fun was had with some unique answers. Kathy Herink won the drawing at the end of the game. President Deb closed with a poem “Good Books, Good Times” by Lee Bennet Hopkins. The hostesses served tea sandwiches, delicious bars and beverage on a beautiful fall table setting. The next meeting will be October 23 at 1:30 p.m. with Martha Gamble hosting at Gifts of Grace. Pat Goos, Secretary
