Elmer Niedermann, 91, of Gladbrook, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Westbrook Acres Care Center in Gladbrook after an extended illness. There was no visitation and burial will be at a later date at Maple Hill Cemetery in rural Gladbrook. Overton Funeral Home assisted the family. Condolences may be left at www.overtonservice.com. Elmer Alfred  Niedermann was born May 17, 1918 at Gladbrook the son of Ernest and Martha(Berner)Niedermann. He received his education at Gladbrook after which he proudly served in the US Navy. On December 20, 1947 he was married to Ada Sonkens in  Marshalltown IA. Ada and Elmer made their home farming Northeast of Gladbrook retiring to town in 1983. They later resided at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook where he continued to live following her death on March 23, 2009. His death came at the care center on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ada , and one brother Clarence, his wife Carolyn, and niece Kathy Niedermann McBride of Marshalltown, He is survived by  nieces and nephews; Jerry (Nancy) Sonkens and Richard Raum both of Salt Lake City, UT, Dennis (Cheryl) Raum of Gladbrook, Bev Raum Green of Hudson, Robert Raum of Blair,NE,Barbara Raum(Glenn)Guillory of Vinton,  Jeff (Carolyn) Sonkens of Marshalltown, Ramona Sonkens (Don) Cook of Cedar Rapids and Brian (Cathy) Plogman of Walford, Iowa, Earl(Ruth) Niedermann of Walker, Minn., Bob(Lois) Niedermann of Kingmsn, Kansas, Dale(Adela)Niedermann of Ankeny, Janet(Terry) Nelson of Marshalltown, a brother in law Linn Sonkens of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and several great nieces and nephews.
