LaVern C. Kahler Sr., 76, of rural Traer, died Sunday, November 22, at home under the care of Grundy County Hospice after an extended illness. Public visitation was held Tuesday, November 24 at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Private family services will be held at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Burial was in Crystal Cemetery, rural Traer, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Grundy County Hospice. Condolences may be left at www.overtonservice.com. Overton Funeral Home in Traer, Iowa were in charge of the arrangements. LaVern Charles Kahler Sr. was born March 19, 1933 in Crystal Township, rural Traer, IA to Harry Gus and Jessie Viola (McNeal) Kahler. He was raised in Crystal Township and attended Crystal #6 country school. On November 23, 1951 he was united in marriage to Shirley Maust in Hardy, Arkansas. LaVern and Shirley farmed in Crystal Township all their married life. His death came Sunday, November 22, 2009 at his home with his family at his side and under the care of Grundy County Hospice. He is preceded in death by his father, grandparents and great granddaughter. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Traer; two sons, Chuck, Jr. (Dorothy), Jon and fiancé June all of Traer; three daughters, Penny (Scott) Peters of Gladbrook, Jolene (Madelon Harms), Traer, Rhonda (Larry) Kling of Polk City, IA, his mother Jessie of Gladbrook, IA, eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one step grandchild.
